a) Written Scale: A written scale gives a description of scale in words
(e.g. 1cm equals 1 km)
b) Linear: A scale with equal divisions for equal values.

c) Ratio: e.g. 1: 100,000. This means that 1cm on the map = 100,000cm in real life
